The Otoe County Genealogical Society will hold its November 12th meeting at the Morton-James Public Library. This meeting will welcome all new members into the society, and will also cover topics of interest concerning genealogical research in the Otoe County area. This meeting is open to all who are interested in joining the society, or just wish to attend to learn more about genealogical research in general. During this meeting we will be conducting our quarterly Genealogy Internet Workshop, where we will be introducing our members to the valuable genealogical resources that are available on the Internet. This workshop is designed to assist those researchers who are unsure of how to locate their family's history online. So if you are new to the Internet and would like assistance in this area, please stop by and join us in our free workshop. Also, for those visitors that prefer to research their ancestors through more conventional means, the library's Genealogical Reference Room will be open at this time, and assistance will be provided by society members in this area as well. Our society meets on the second Thursday of every month at 7:00 pm, and our meeting location alternates every other month between the Otoe County Museum of Memories in Syracuse, and the Morton-James Public Library in Nebraska City. To learn more about the society, please check out our website, or contact the Morton-James Public Library for more information.
VETERAN'S DAY CONCERT
JR HIGH ECNC HONOR CHOIR
Over 130 Junior High students from around the area joined their voices together on Monday, October 26th and performed a truly wonderful concert for their families and friends at Conestoga Jr/Sr High School. These students prepare for this honor choir weeks in advance by rehearsing the music chosen by the participating schools' choir directors at their own schools. They then gather at the host school and combine their voices with the guidance of the choir directors. It's amazing how students from ten schools with ten different directors can join together and sound so beautiful!! The participating schools and their directors are listed below: Conestoga--Dwight Rose East Butler--Vickie Hines Elmwood-Murdock--Betty Colbert Johnson County Central--Cinda Goodrich Louisville--Katie Burns Malcolm--Michael Beach Mead--Mistyn Kozisek Palmyra--Beth McCreight Weeping Water--Kim Hammer Yutan--Michaela Babic
The Lofte Theatre
The Lofte takes great pride in utilizing the performing arts to give young people self-confidence and public speaking skills. In that tradition, the Lofte is preparing to host not one, not two, but three diffferent high school one-act play competitions this fall! In recent years, the Lofte has become a popular location for these types of competitions. Its central location, friendly volunteers and authentic theater environment are three reasons why school administrators keep coming back.
