Community Foundation
From Weeping Water Republican Frew explains community foundation The Weeping Water Chamber of Commerce had its monthly meeting on Monday, March 18, at the Weeping Water School. This week’s featured guest was Ray Frew, chairman of the Weeping Water Community Foundation. Frew pointed out the foundation allows individuals who make donations to city organizations through the Weeping Water Foundation, can now receive tax relief. Frew explained the community foundation bypasses the city budget, when donations go through the city’s account. Funding received into the Weeping Water Community Foundation will help many different organizations. Frew also explained there are two types of donations; permanent and non-permanent. A permanent donation is an endowment, which accrues interest and allows the money to be used for funding for particular projects. A non-permanent donation is a smaller donation which goes to various city organizations. The Weeping Water Community Foundation became affiliated in December 2001. Currently it has ten members and Frew hopes that number grows as more find out about the advantages of donating to the foundation. Members to the foundation are available to answer questions. Anyone interested may contact Ray Frew, Kim Schreiner or Yvonne Meeske. “We hope to do some good for the community.,” Frew comruiented. “We need to do things for our city to keep this town viable.” With a great deal involved in organizing such a foundation he said, “I’m learning. Hopefully down the road somewhere we will be successful.” Door prizes at the luncheon meeting were provided by Wade Insurance Agency. Winners were: Cora Demike, Keith Hammons, Hylah Hammons, Don Knipfel, Ron Wohlers, Joe Roberts, Beth Stawniak and Ray Frew. Betty Welte gave an update on the Easter Egg Hunt, which will take place on Saturday, March 30, at 1:00 p.m. Superintendent John Weidner commented on the recent levy override election. “I would like to thank the Weeping Water Kids First Committee for their hard work.” On the results he stated, “Patrons of the district want to keep their school and that’s nice to see.” Other visitors present at the meeting included Brenda Cornelius, publisher, and Jeanene Wehrbein, editor, of The Plattsmouth Journal newspaper. The next chamber meeting will be on April 15, at the Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. |
