The Weeping Water Chamber of Commerce met for its regular meeting On September 18, 2006 for lunch at the United Methodist Church. President Mike Spohe welcomed everyone to the meeting and the invocation was given by Pastor Sandy. She introduced her friend Kathy as a visitor.
Door prizes were furnished by Wade Insurance and Carole’s Flowers and winners were: Keith Hammons, Tammy Ahrens, Betty Welte, Ray Frew, Ron Svoboda, Joyce Murphy, Barb Davis, and Barb Bergmann.
The minutes of the August meeting were read by Betty and approved as read. The financial report was given by Jean Bruns with a balance of $4,830.18. Carole Cappen made a motion to accept the financial report, 2nd by Diane Christian, motion carried.
Mike advised that the school will be planning a parade for downtown on Friday afternoon for Homecoming. They would also like to have various organizations in the school decorate business windows. A signup sheet was passed around for interested businesses who would be willing to have their window decorated for Homecoming.
Coming Home for Christmas will be the next big item for the Chamber. A signup sheet was passed around for interested workers on the various committees. There will be a meeting at the City Hall on Wednesday, Sept. 20th to discuss the planning for the Come Home for Christmas for anyone interested. It was decided to see if the PTO wanted to do Santa’s Workshop again this year since the Chamber does not want to do it.
Teresa Lauritzen with Bloom Where You Are Planted handed out flyers for their Pumpkin Festival and a Coupon towards a purchase.
Pastor John Moser advised that the Ministerial Assoc. has a fund to help needs in the community that come it and at the present time the funds are very low, so anyone interested in donating to that cause is encouraged to do so.
Mike advised that the property to the East of the Methodist Church Fellowship Hall has been purchased by the United Methodist Church.
Next meeting will be October 16 and the School with door prizes furnished by Kerford Limestone. Carole made a motion to adjourn, 2nd by Diane, motion carried.
