From Nehawka Vol. Fire Department

As we have been blessed with rain all day long, we would like to send a thank you out to all those departments that came to help us yesterday with our field fire. We would also like to thank the agricultural community with their assistance of tractors and discs that helped contain the fire.
The fire started in a harvested bean field but the fire grew in size, very quickly, due to winds. Soon after Nehawka and Avoca crews had arrived, the fire grew faster than water would come out. Due to the wind fueled fire conditions, it was decided to declare an all county incident to get additional resources responding to contain the fire.
We would not have been able to contain this fire any sooner without the help of the agricultural community. We had multiple tractors with disc implements assigned to multiple locations to help create a fire break, and work alongside the fire departments. These guys also brought water trailers to help extinguish the fire.
We would like to send a special thanks to Frontier Co-Op for supplying us with semi trailers to fill the trucks on scene in record time, and to help keep our water supply full for the whole length of the call.
The coordination effort of our dispatch professionals help get these resources coming and work behind the scenes from both the fire and law enforcement efforts.
Overall we were on scene for approximately 5 and a half hours.
At the time of this post, we do not have the number of personnel and apparatus from each department to share.

2022 09 07 UNION NE American Legion 1

We would like to try a donation approach again. We tried this several months ago and didn’t receive anything.

Our organization, Union American Legion Auxiliary, is nonprofit and we do not receive any government funding. Our goal is to support the community and veterans. We find this to be difficult since we pay our own insurance and utilities. Our activities are through donations. We have always served funeral dinners for veterans and the community. The type of dinner varies depending on what the family wishes. Members make and donate the food. We stress to the members the food has to follow safety food regulations. We do have a nutritionist and a culinary specialist in our group.

We have tried to raise the money for an improved front sidewalk. We serve 1000-2000 people every year with elections and dinners. The funeral dinners vary in size 25-200.

Another approach is to give the old part of town playground equipment for the older children.

Please give your donation to the Union American Legion Auxiliary to 104 Main, Box 124, Union, NE A receipt will be mailed to you that can be used for tax purposes.

2020 CCMT

COME ON OVER!

This is the way country music started out, with acoustic instruments, before electricity.  People sat out on the lawn, on the porch, or in a friend’s house and played their instruments together.

Enjoy the originality of music which is still present in many circles of friends.
