WEEPING WATER
RESIDENTS
LB245 requires fluoridation of the human drinking water supply of any city and village with a population of one thousand or more persons by June 1, 2010, unless the city or village has sufficient amounts of naturally occurring fluoride in its water supply. It also provides that the governing body of the city or village may vote to place the fluoridation issue before the voters at a statewide primary or general election.
Initially Governor Dave Heineman vetoed LB245 because of the bill’s costs and its mandate on local governments, but the legislation overrode the veto.
After city officials hosted a public “town hall” meeting where several interested citizens provided written information addressing the pros and cons of the proposed fluoridation issue, it was determined that the citizens of Weeping Water should be allowed the opportunity to decide whether fluoride should be added to the city’s water system. Therefore at the upcoming November 4, 2008 election, the following issue will be presented on the ballot for a public vote:
“Shall the City of Weeping Water, Nebraska adopt an ordinance to prohibit the addition of fluoride to the city’s water system?”
____ Yes – to prohibit fluoride from the water system
(If citizens DO NOT WANT FLUORIDATION and wish to leave
the water supply system as is)
____ No – Against the prohibition of fluoride from the water system
(This would require the city to set up a system to add fluoride to
the city water system by June 1, 2010)
Additional information can be obtained at City Hall or on various websites.

The Weeping Water PTO (Parent-Teacher Organization) is selling stadium chairs in order to earn money to purchase items for the elementary school. The PTO has purchased many items for the school over the years such as new playground equipment and many classroom supplies. The stadium chairs cost $40 for one and $75 for two. They hold up to 350 lbs and are very good quality. What a great idea for Christmas gifts! If you are interested in purchasing some chairs, please call Brandy Ahrens, PTO president, at 297-0876. Thank you for your support.
