CLASSIC CLUB DINNER

More than 85 people were treated to a dinner hosted by Farmers and Merchants Bank of Weeping Water on Tuesday, November 25th.  This dinner is an annual event held by the bank to thank its loyal customers for their patronage.  The meal was catered by Annette’s Catering and featured Italian Chicken, ham, seasoned diced potatoes, green beans, rolls and butter, and two kinds of cake for dessert.  Those in attendance were entertained by the vocal duet of Don Hughes and Lindsey Powles, both employees of Farmers and Merchants Bank.

We can’t forget to mention the other entertainment for the evening—Ima Critic.  Ima is a somewhat outspoken woman who “doesn’t like to complain, but she will”.  She happily bestowed perfect lip prints on the cheeks of several employees of the bank, including yours truly!  Her points of view on several topics were very entertaining for the guests.

The evening concluded with door prizes, including blankets and the table centerpieces, given to some lucky guests.

SAFE KIDS

The holidays are approaching and many families will be traveling by car. Car crashes are the number one killer of children ages 3-14 in the United States. Safe Kids Sarpy Cass is encouraging child passenger safety seat checks before holiday travel. Nearly 85% of child safety restraints are installed incorrectly in Sarpy and Cass counties. A simple step to have your children checked in their car seats/boosters at a Safe Kids Child Passenger Safety Seat Check event could keep them alive when traveling to celebrate the holidays with family and friends. Don’t let your child become a holiday statistic. Remember, your children are counting on you to keep them safe! For further information, visit www.safekids.org.

CHRISTMAS IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER!
ARE YOU READY?

I’m always amazed at how fast time flies now that I am getting older (or should I say “more mature”!).   Christmas will be here in six weeks and there is so much to do—shopping, eating, baking, wrapping, eating, visiting, eating, decorating, and did I mention eating?  The most beautiful part of the Christmas season for me are the decorations that I see on and around the houses in the town of Weeping Water.  Nothing gets me in the Christmas mood faster than driving around town to look at the lights and displays that have been painstakingly designed, built, and erected by some very talented people in our community.

I would love to showcase these houses in my column every week.  If you see a house all decked out in its Christmas finery, snap a picture and send it to me, along with the address, so that I can tell my readers where they can see the display in person.

I would also like to hear about special events happening in the community—food drives, caroling, Christmas parties, sledding parties, Christmas programs, coat drives, toy drives, etc.—anything that you think helps get people in the Christmas spirit.
