Weeping Water Nebraska
D.A.R.E.

(DRUG ABUSE RESISTANCE EDUCATION)

The annual D.A.R.E. graduation ceremony was held on December 2, 2008 in the Weeping Water school auditorium.  Twenty-four sixth grade students received certificates and hugs from Deputy Wes Tuttle (D.A.R.E. Officer), Sheriff William C. Brueggemann, Deputy Tony Foster (Guest Speaker), and Mrs. Lori Lindau (6th Grade teacher).
Deputy Tuttle visited the school every week to teach the students about how to resist pressure to do drugs and drink alcohol.  They were also taught strategies on how to handle bullies and many other issues that they encounter every day.
The students were required to write an essay about the D.A.R.E. program.  The essays were judged by Deputy Tuttle and Sheriff Brueggemann and the winners of the essay contest were Daniel Hill and Paige Weskamp.  Congratulations to all the graduates!  GOOD JOB!

IT’S BEGINNING TO LOOK A LOT LIKE CHRISTMAS!

Here are some great lighting displays to check out!

Remember, I would love to showcase houses and businesses that have been decorated for Christmas in my column every week.  If you see a house all decked out in its Christmas finery, snap a picture and send it to me, along with the address, so that I can tell my readers where they can see the display in person.
I would also like to hear about special events happening in the community—food drives, caroling, Christmas parties, sledding parties, Christmas programs, coat drives, toy drives, etc.—anything that you think helps get people in the Christmas spirit.
