The Old Avoca Schoolhouse
The Old Avoca (Nebraska) Schoolhouse will be hosting a Beginning
Recorder Workshop on Saturday, September 12, form 1 PM - 3 PM, for
folks who want to learn to play the soprano recorder. Deborah
Greenblatt, Master Artist with the Nebraska Arts Council, and member
of the American Recorder Society, will lead the workshop. Pre-

A Sightreading Workshop is scheduled for Saturday, October 3, 2009, from
1 PM - 3 PM in the Old Avoca Schoolhouse, in picturesque Avoca,
Nebraska. This will be a wonderful opportunity to play with other music
students, and sightread music that you've never seen before, and don't
have to ever see again. During the workshop, musicians will be discussing
how to negotiate new compositions with minimum stress, and maximum
music. The beauty of this workshop is that all you have to do is show up.
There is no preparation necessary, although pre-registration is required,
and there is a $20.00 fee.

Auditions at the Lofte Community Theatre
August 17, 2009 Manley, NE --The Lofte Community Theatre near Manley announces that it will hold open auditions for Billy Van Zandt and Jane Milmore's "Lie, Cheat and Genuflect." Auditions will be held at the theater on Monday, August 31st and Tuesday, September 1st at 7PM, and will consist of cold readings from the script. The production will be directed by Kevin Colbert.
The story is a fast-paced farce about two brothers, one of whom has the unlucky penchant of picking the slowest horse at the track. They've already borrowed from the local loan shark, and while there's plenty of money in Grandfather Buckle's will, it's a sure thing that these two black sheep will never see a dime. What's left to do except have one brother dress up as the favorite cousin, who happens to be a nun? Other characters include a stuffy lawyer, a hard drinking housekeeper, and a trio of beautiful women.
Performance dates are October 9-11, 16-18, and 22-25. Questions may be sent to Kevin Colbert by calling the theater, (402) 234-2553 or by sending an email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

"Over The River" Opens at The Lofte Theatre
The Lofte Community Theatre announces that its next season installment, "Over the River and Through the Woods" by Joe DiPietro opens on Friday, August 28th. The comedy revolves around young Nick and his extended Italian-American family.
Nick's mom and dad have retired and have moved to Florida, but both sets of grandparents are still very much involved in his life. Nick gets a chance to pursue his dream job, but threatens to move him far away from New Jersey and his grandparents. Soon the loving, but meddlesome grannies decide that they must take evasive action. They decide to find a nice girl for Nick so that he'll settle down and stay on the east coast! This is a wonderful family comedy filled with laughs and heartfelt situations about growing up, growing older, and the things we lose and gain along the way.
Performing in their first Lofte production is Jason Weixelman and Chuck Danskin, both of Lincoln. Both Mr. Weixelman and Mr. Danskin have an extensive history with the Lincoln Community Playhouse. Also starring in the production are Mary Ann Stohlmann of Murdock, real-life husband and wife Bob and Margie Pinkerton of Weeping Water, and Allie Nielsen of Omaha.
Performances run August 28-30, September 4-6 and 10-13. Curtain times Thursday-Saturday are 7:30pm and Sundays at 2pm. Those interested in tickets, driving directions or other information about the theater may call the Lofte box office at (402) 234-2553 or visit their website, www.Lofte.com.
