MEMORIAL DAY

When I Am Gone

When I come to the end of my journey
And I travel my last weary mile,
Just forget if you can, that I ever frowned
And remember only the smile.

Forget unkind words I have spoken;
Remember some good I have done.
Forget that I ever had heartache
And remember I've had loads of fun.

Forget that I've stumbled and blundered
And sometimes fell by the way.
Remember I have fought some hard battles
And won, ere the close of the day.

Then forget to grieve for my going,
I would not have you sad for a day,
But in summer just gather some flowers
And remember the place where I lay,

And come in the shade of evening
When the sun paints the sky in the west
Stand for a few moments beside me
And remember only my best.

-Mrs. Lyman Hancock

THE LOFTE COMMUNITY THEATRE

The Lofte Community Theatre will begin its 34th season with Harry Segall's classic, "Heaven Can Wait."  It is the story of a loveable prize-fighter, Joe Pendleton whom is snatched into the afterlife before his time.  In an effort to rectify the situation, his guardian angel returns Joe to earth in the body of an elderly millionaire.  "Heaven Can Wait" has all of the ingredients of a lighthearted comedy while also asking important questions about life and true love.

The original stage play "Heaven Can Wait" has been made into several movie versions over the years.  The most well-known was the 1978 film starring Warren Beatty and Julie Christie.  The original movie, 1941's "Here Comes Mr. Jordan"  received two Academy Awards for Original Story and Best Screenplay.

Directed by Kevin Colbert, the production stars Jamion Biesterfeld of Louisville in the starring role of Joe Pendleton.  His well-meaning heavenly guide is played by Bob Pinkerton of Weeping Water.  Other cast members include Theresa Massoth and Mark Sievering of Murray; Mark Sheldon, Tim Sorensen and Jeff Johnston of Elmwood; Anna and Levi Stroebel and Silvia Conley of Omaha; Melinda Mead and David Willingham of Plattsmouth and Hope and Dave Hibler of Manley.

The production runs May 28-30, June 4-6 and 10-13.  Tickets are $16 and can be purchased by calling the Lofte Box Office at (402) 234-2553 or online at www.Lofte.com.  Please note that season tickets for all five of the Lofte's stage productions can still be purchased for $60 through June 13.

Missoula Children's Theatre

Auditions for the Missoula Children's Theatre production of "King Arthur's Quest"  will be held on Monday, June 14, 2010 from 10am to 12pm at the Lofte Community Theatre near Manley.  There are roles for students entering 1st grade through 7th grade.  There is no cost to participate in this production.  Those wishing to audition must arrive by 10am and be prepared to stay for the whole two-hour session.  The first rehearsal begins 15-30 minutes after auditions.  There is no guarantee that everyone who auditions will be cast in the play.  This is a group audition.  No advance preparation is necessary, but a smile always helps!
The first rehearsal will begin at approximately 12:30pm on Monday, right after auditions.  Subsequent rehearsals will take place at the Lofte each day that week (through June 19) from 10am to 2:30pm.  Although not all actors will be needed at each session, they should make sure they have a clear schedule for the entire week.  It is important that each child attends ALL rehearsals required for their role.   A detailed schedule for each child/role will be distributed after auditions.
The Missoula Children's Theatre is a non-profit organization based in Missoula, Montana. This year they will work with more than 65,000 children across the globe.  Missoula's residency week at the Lofte Community Theatre is made possible by Home State Bank of Louisville.
The Lofte will hold two public performances on Saturday, June 19th, 2010.  The first is at 3pm, the second at 6pm.  Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for children under 12.  More information about "King Arthur's Quest" can be found on the Lofte's website, www.Lofte.com.

For all the people who continued to follow our quest for the top spot in the Animal Rescue Site/Pet Finder Shelter Challenge. THANK YOU for voting for the Plattsmouth Animal Shelter every day.
The contest has ended but we were at #14 in the State of Nebraska (last time I checked) so we may have finished higher.We didn't win anything this time but it was fantastic that we had so many people voting and rooting for us! The challenges run for 19 weeks.
Here's the really good news .............
The new shelter challenge begins on Monday, May 17, 2010 and will continue through Sunday, August 22, 2010. Many grants will be awarded over 19 weeks and we're hoping you'll help us win some of them. Please, will you tell all your relatives, friends, co-workers,email buddies from anywhere and maybe strangers on the street? Here are the very detailed and easy to follow instructions. By the way - it's an awesome web site with a great online store!

PLEASE -

Go to www.amimalrescuesite.com and click on the button on the right "Click Here To Give - It's Free" - at this point you are giving free food to animals at many shelters.
Now you'll get a message "Thank you your click has been counted!"
On the top of the screen - "Help your favorite animal shelter win a prize!"
Click the "Vote Today" Button
The first time you vote you will need to enter all the information -
Shelter name: Plattsmouth Animal Shelter
Country: USA
State: Nebraska
City: Plattsmouth
Click on "search"
It will locate the shelter and display the name and location - when it does click "VOTE"
One more step ...... Confirm your vote (name the animal) and you're done.
After you do this the first time, you can save it in your favorites (it will retain all the shelter info) and the voting is much quicker the next time!
IMPORTANT: Please remember to vote every day and help us gain on the leaders - thanks!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The other fund raiser (also a type of contest) involves "Pet Enthusiast" Magazine. Happy Paws is selling subscriptions to the magazine and for every paid subscription we will get a portion which will help us support the shelter by providing for all the daily needs of our shelter pets. It also offers the financial support for Vet care for sick or injured pets and without it the shelter would not survive. Every single donation is very important to Happy Paws and the shelter. Without the support of many concerned citizens, the shelter would be "out of business" and the animals would go to the Nebraska Humane Society, where depending on their space availability,the animals future could end in euthanasia.
Here's the information:
We are offering subscriptions to this magazine for $24.99 a year. Of that $24.99, we will get $5.00. It will add up! It really is a great magazine!
Ordering is simple, you can go to their web site at www.PE-magazine.com and then click on the banner at the top that says "Subscription Fundraiser" -  it's fast and easy to do.  Be sure to click on the down arrow to highlight Plattsmouth Animal Shelter when ordering so we get credit for your order.
Thank you for your support.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

LAST BUT NOT LEAST .............

Please visit the shelter web site often and do stop in to say "hello" during shelter hours. The animals love the attention!
The web site is www.plattsmouthanimalshelter.com - check out everything on the shelter and then click on the green "Happy Paws" tab - read about us and make a donation if you wish.
