Local students compete at Nebraska SkillsUSA conference.
Seven students from the Weeping Water SkillsUSA chapter made the journey to Hastings, Ne for the 45th Nebraska SkillsUSA State Leadership and Skills Conference on April 12-14th. The students competed in two or more contests related in the career, transportation, construction, and health related fields. Weeping Water had good success, bringing home 9 medals, two trophies, and one repeat SkillsUSA National Qualifier. The following students who placed in their state competitions include:
Automotive Refinishing Technology, 1st Place, Joel Meisinger;
Technical Team Problem Solving, 1st Place, Michaela Horn, Jacob Meeske, Taylor Hermann, Collin Heath, Dayne Wilson;
State Only Cabinetmaking, 2nd Place, Dayne Wilson;
Mechatronics, 3rd Place, Michaela Horn & Collin Heath
Josh Meyer also competed in the Power Equipment Technology contest this year, he placed 3rd at the 2010 Nebraska SkillsUSA conference, and was the chapter President this past year. Joel Meisinger will again represent Nebraska at the 2012 National SkillsUSA conference this June in Kansas City, Mo. Joel competed against over 30 other High School students from across the countryin the Automotive Refinishing contest last June. He received tips and training from a local community member. This marks Weeping Water’s 3rd consecutive year with a National Qualifier. Their Advisor is Mr. Paul Cross.

LEGISLATURE AND SENT TO GARY WOCKENFUSS, MIKE BARRETT,
AND HOWARD STUBBENDIECK. IT READ AS FOLLOWS:
ONE HUNDRED SECOND LEGISLATURE
SECOND SESSION
LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION 624
Introduced by Lambert,
WHEREAS, the Weeping Water school district and residents of Weeping Water, Nebraska, won the Class C-2 Sportsmanship Award at the 2012 Girls' State Basketball Tournament; and
WHEREAS, the award is co-sponsored by the Nebraska Coaches Association (NCA) and the Nebraska State Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NSIAAA) ; and
WHEREAS, the NCA and NSIAAA created the award program in 2000 to promote sportsmanship at a statewide level; and
WHEREAS, four sportsmanship evaluators assess players, coaches, students, adults, and supervisors from each school at each tournament game; and
WHEREAS, each school begins with five points per judge, and the school earns points for positive behavior and loses points for inappropriate behavior; and
WHEREAS, in 2012 Weeping Water became the first Cass County school to win the sportsmanship award at the Girls' State Basketball Tournament and the first Cass County school to claim the award at any state event since 2001; and
WHEREAS, the outpouring of support by adults and students helped the school win the award; and
WHEREAS, winning the award was an exciting accomplishment for the Weeping Water school district and the community of Weeping Water, Nebraska.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MEMBERS OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND LEGISLATURE OF NEBRASKA, SECOND SESSION:
1. That the Legislature congratulates the Weeping Water school district and the community of Weeping Water, Nebraska, on winning the Class C-2 Sportsmanship Award at the 2012 Girls' State Basketball Tournament. 2. That a copy of this resolution be sent to the principal of Weeping Water Public Schools, Gary Wockenfuss, to the school's athletic director, Mike Barrett, and to the mayor of Weeping Water, Nebraska, Howard Stubbendieck.
