Weeping Water Community Newsletter
June 21, 2007
This Friday, June 21st, marks the first day of summer and is the summer solstice. The summer solstice marks the first day of summer and is the longest day, from sunrise to sunset, of the year. Solstice is the Latin word for sun stands still. Solstices actually happen twice a year, once in June and once in December. During the solstice the sun’s apparent position on the celestial sphere reaches it’s greatest distance above or below the equator. For the June solstice the sun is directly overhead at noon at the Tropic of Cancer, which causes the longest day and the shortest night to occur in the Northern Hemisphere, which marks the beginning of summer.

Did you know? The past two weekends Weeping Water girl’s softball has been enormously successful. In the past two weekends there have been three league tournaments, 10& under, 14 & under, and 16 & under. Out of these three teams two have received the league title. The Weeping Water girls 10 & under and 16 & under softball teams both brought home metals to show all their hard work and effort put into this sport. Congratulations to both teams for a job well done!
