            The Cass County Queen contest was held on Wednesday, August 8 kicking off the Cass County Fair with a bang. There were seven candidates competing for the title of Cass County Queen and the $500 scholarship that is awarded with it. The candidates for the Cass County Queen contest were: Miss Murdock- Kelsie Scholting, Miss Elmwood-Madison Stephen, Miss Weeping Water-Michaela Brinkman, Miss Plattsmouth-Nicolette Green, Miss Louisville-Caitie Leibman, Miss Murray- Kimberly Clawson, and Miss Avoca-Brianna Hammer.

            All of the candidates did a wonderful job of reciting their speeches and answering the dreaded random question drawn out of the fish bowl. All of the candidates did a great job and represented Cass County well. Miss Weeping Water Michaela Brinkman was awarded Cass County Princess and Miss Plattsmouth Nicolette Green was crowned Cass County Queen. Congratulations Michaela and Nicolette on a job well done.

Weeping Water School calendars: Weeping Water school calendars are now finished and have been sent out. If you did not receive one they are available at various businesses around town, including the Express Lane. Don’t forget to pick one up and support Weeping Water School’s various events!

 Weeping Water High School football scrimmage: The high school football players Gatorade scrimmage is scheduled for this Friday, August 17th at 7:00 pm. Admission into the game is a bottle of Gatorade or Powerade, which will later be used for the players during practice. Come and support all the hard work these boys have done in the past two weeks!

 

Weeping Water Fall Community Garage Sales 
Saturday, September 15

It’s time, once again, to clean out the closets and get ready for the upcoming fall season. What a better way to do it than with a garage sale!

Anyone interested in being included on the garage sale map please contact

 Weeping Water Elementary Open House

When: Thursday, August 16

Time: 7:00-7:45 pm

Where: In your child’s classroom

Come see your child’s classroom! Visit with their teachers!

This open house gives the children a chance to meet their teacher before school starts and begin to get adjusted to the thought of going to school again or maybe for the first time (YAY for Kindergarteners!!).

You may bring your school supplies to the open house if you would like.

You will also be able to pick up all the paperwork, which will need to be brought back to school, at the open house. Students who bring back the paperwork within the first two days of school will receive a special surprise!

The first day of school is Monday, August 20th. Dismissal is at 11:00 am.

Be sure to attend this very fun and exciting activity with your children! :o)

New Weeping Water Rescue Squad Members Wanted
Weeping Water Rescue is looking for a few good people to join the Rescue Squad!

Criteria:
• Must be of good moral character (State EMS rules).
• Must live in Weeping Water fire district (includes Manley).
• Must have been a resident for 6 months or more.
• Must be at least 19 years of age.
• Must be in good physical condition.
• You will start the “Ride Along Program.”
• You must have a membership approval to join the “Ride Along Program.”
• After the “Ride Along Program” is completed you can be approved to join the squad.
• If approved, you will attend an EMT training class.
• After completion, you must pass the National Registry Exam to become a State Certified EMT and become eligible to take care of patients.

Contact any Weeping Water Rescue Squad member or call 267-3405 to obtain further information and an application.

 

Cass County Renegades
Summer marks the beginning of the season for the semi-pro Cass County Renegades football team. Weeping Water football field is the home field for the Cass County Renegades. The Cass County Renegades encourage youth involvement by having game activities, events, contests, prizes, and giveaways at their home games. The Renegades also offer youth football camps. Come support our local football team!

The purpose of these Thursday night meetings is to help everyone finish their unfinished quilts and to also show you how to piece quilt blocks so you can make your own quilt. ABSOLUTELY FREE! Have you heard the news? A restaurant for Springfield will be opening soon. Situated in the old Dew Drop Inn on Main St. will be the new Fabulous Dew Drop Inn. With quite an impressive menu, this restaurant will be a fabulous addition to our town. For a peak preview of a sample menu, stop by the library to pick up a copy. Can’t wait for the grand opening!
